Jill brings a breadth of experience and a practical business-oriented approach to her work, which focuses on helping entrepreneurs and leaders of established businesses maximize shareholder value growth while minimizing legal risks.

Jill Williamson is the head of the Compliance and Regulatory Practice, and a member of the firm’s Emerging Technology Practice at Gravis Law, PLLC. Jill brings a breadth of experience and a practical business-oriented approach to her work, which focuses on helping entrepreneurs and leaders of established businesses maximize shareholder value growth while minimizing legal risks. She acts as an advisor and outside general counsel for several companies. She also assists clients in conducting internal investigations, defending government investigations and provides compliance advice in the areas of anti-money laundering, anti-corruption, export compliance, sanctions, data privacy and compliance and risk management. In particular, Jill is experienced in compliance and regulatory matters related to blockchain/Web3 undertakings; including NFTs, cryptocurrencies and DAOs.

Representative matters include:

  • Acting as general counsel for global medical equipment manufacturer
  • Advising on the formation of multiple DAOs, include a Wyoming DAO LLC, and a Caymans foundation DAO
  • Acting as general counsel to a U.S.-based stable coin and neo-bank company
  • Representing negotiating sponsorship agreements with two Serie A soccer clubs and other sponsor and partner deals
  • Defending a former director of layer 1 blockchain company against allegations of securities fraud in arbitration

She has held high-level compliance positions in both Fortune 100 and mid-sized global corporations. Ms. Williamson started her legal career working in Washington, D.C. at such AmLaw 100 firms as DLA Piper, Alston & Bird and Squire Patton Boggs, where she defended clients against global government investigations and provided compliance counseling, compliance interventions and compliance system design and deployment.

Prior to practicing law, Ms. Williamson served seven years in the U.S. Army as a Russian Linguist, SIGINT operator (Signal Intelligence based on electronic signals and systems used by foreign targets), and an arms control inspector. She was awarded the Army Overseas Service Medal, the National Defense Service Ribbon, the Humanitarian Service Ribbon, the Army Achievement Medal and the Air Assault Badge.

Ms. Williamson has an enduring commitment to public service and pro bono work. While at Alston and Bird, she received the Philip H. Alston Award for exemplary pro bono service for her work defending Guantanamo detainees. Most recently, she won an appeal for a veteran of the Vietnam war resulting in the award of over $100,000 in owed disability benefits. She also volunteers on the executive committee for the USA Club Rugby Association, the governing body for adult amateur rugby in the U.S.

Jill graduated cum laude with a B.A. from University of Maryland, University College, and graduated from the University of Texas School of Law, with honors.
